The Audi Sport Team Joest R18 with the driver line-up of Lucas Di Grassi, Loïc Duval and Oliver Jarvis took pole position for Round Seven of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship at Fuji Speedway. Di Grassi took the first qualifying stint and put in a 1:23.854, improved by over half a second by his team-mate Duval who lapped in 1:23,286.
The average lap-time of 1:23.570 was enough to put them on pole for Sunday’s six-hour race by .025 seconds ahead of the #1 Porsche team 919 Hybrid. Mark Webber, who recently announced his retirement from professional driving, lapped in 1:23.525 while his team-mate Timo Bernhard put in a 1:23.665 on his second lap out of three.
To make it three different manufactures occupying the first three slots on the grid, Toyota Gazoo Racing’s #5 TS050-Hybrid will occupy third place after Kazuki Nakajima and Sebastian Buemi lapped in an average of 1:23.79.

In the FIA World Endurance Manufacturers Championship Porsche Team now holds a 53-point advantage over Audi Sport team Joest after victory at the 6 Hours of Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas for the #1 Porsche Team 919 Hybrid driven by Timo Bernhard, Mark Webber and Brendon Hartley. Having qualified in pole and second on the grid for the 2015 race followed by a win for Bernard, Hartley and Webber, Porsche Team are confident going into the latest round.

With a provisional entry list that must surely delight series organisers the Automobile Club De L’Ouest, 33 cars will take to the grid for the first round of the 2016/17 Asian Le Mans when the season opens in Zhuhai, China.
The biggest growth has been seen in the LMP3 class where 11 cars will compete for the coveted invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Four cars are entered in the LMP2 class. Algarve Pro Racing is entering a pair of Ligier JS P2s, one Judd-powered to be driven by Matthew McMurry and Tacksung Kim and Nicky Catsburg. Its Nissan-powered entry, the #25 car, will be driven by Michael Munnemann, Andrea Pizzitola and Andrea Rode. Two ORECA 03Rs are entered. Race Performance has entered its Judd-powered #8 with a driver line-up of Giorgio Maggi, Struan Moore and Denis Lian. New entrant Jackie Chan DC Racing has entered its Nissan-powered example, to be piloted by Ho-Pin Tung and Thomas Laurent.

Selangor-based Aylezo Racing, led by Zen Low, will shortly embark on a journey that it hopes will culminate in it being the first motorsport team from Malaysia to compete at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Aylezo Racing, which recently took delivery of its new Ginetta LMP3, enjoyed early success with the new car when Zen Low and Weiron Tan took a double podium of second and third places at the final rounds of the Asian Le Mans Series Sprint Cup at Sepang International Circuit.
