Asian Le Mans Series Season Finale Win For Pizzitola / Newey / De Jong / Algarve Pro Racing At Sepang (24.02.19)

United Autosports Secure LMP2 Title

After finishing second in the penultimate round of the 2018/19 Asian Le Mans Series In Thailand, the #24 Algarve Pro Racing Judd-powered Ligier JS P2 crew of Andrea Pizzitola, Harrison Newey and Ate Dirk De Jong went one better in the heat of Malaysia to secure a win by 1:43.092 over the #22 United Autosports Nissan-powered Ligier. Second place, however, was sufficient for the #22 United Autosports entry to take the title with 80 points with the #24 Algarve Pro Racing entry finishing second in the standings on 69 points.

Completing the podium positions was the #25 Panis-Barthez Compétition entry piloted by Matthieu Lahaye, Jean-Baptiste Lahaye and François Hériau.

The #4 ARC Bratislava Ligier finished fourth overall with the driver line-up of Miro Konopka, Ling Kang and Darren Burke securing the win in the LMP2 Am category.

In a closely fought LMP3 battle, the #13 Inter Europol Competition Ligier JS P3, with the driver line-up of Jakub Smiechowski and Martin Hippe took the win with the Christian Olsen and Nick Adcock-crewed #7 Ecurie Ecosse / Nielsen Racing Ligier in second. Chris Buncombe, Garett Grist and Wayne Boyd, in their #2 United Autosports Ligier completed the top three in class.

The victory secured the LMP3 title for the #13 Inter Europol Competition entry with the #2 United Autosports finishing second in the standings on 70.

Car Guy, with its Ferrari F488 GT3, made it four out of four when James Calado brought the #11 entry he shared with team owner Takeshi Kimura and Kei Cozzolino home to take the chequered flag a lap ahead of the #88 Tianshi Racing Team Audi R8 LMS piloted by Xu Wei, Chen Wei An and Dries Vanthoor.

With four invitations to the 2019 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans as prizes for the championship winners, the #22 United Autosports entry, the #4 ARC Bratislava entry and the #13 Inter Europol Competition Ligier all receive invitations to compete in the LMP2 class at the Great Race with the #11 Car Guy Ferrari being invited to compete in the LMGTE Am category, the Ferrari F488 GT3 being able to be converted to GTE specification.
