West Thurrock-based AmDTuning.com has announced that Lee Mowle and Ryan Ratcliffe will drive its Mercedes AMG GT3 in the 2017 British GT Championship.

Mowle partnered Joe Osborne in AmDTuning’s BMW Z4 GT3 in the 2016 British GT Championship, finishing fourth in the GT3 Teams Championship and joint sixth in the Drivers Championship.

Ryan Ratcliffe drove the Optimum Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT3 before the Wakefield-based team withdrew the car part way through the 2016 British GT Championship.

Mowle is delighted at the opportunity to compete for a fifth season in the premier domestic GT championship and his second with AmDTuning.com.

“Although it wasn’t part of my original plans, I’m really excited about the prospect of racing the Mercedes in British GT this year,” said Mowle. “When the opportunity came along to race in the series, it was one that made perfect sense and I’m pleased to be returning for another season.

“Personally I think I’m going into the season in good shape and I feel Ryan is a young driver who continues to improve and get quicker, so I think we are in for a good year.”

23-year old Ratcliffe had a challenging season in 2016 and is looking forward to the opportunity to race the all-new Mercedes AMG GT3.

“I had a few things lined up for this year but no full season programme,” said Ratcliffe. “So when I got the call from Lee to see if I was interested in racing the Mercedes, I almost bit his hand off! It’s something that was really unexpected but I really can’t wait to get started and having already driven a new generation GT3 car, I am keen to see how the Mercedes compares.

“On a personal level, 2016 was a difficult year on track for me,” continued Ratcliffe. “But I think me and Lee will be a good paring who can run towards the front end of the grid.”

The opening round of the 2017 British HT Championship takes place at Oulton Park on April 15 -17 and the free-to-enter Media day to launch the season will be held at Snetterton on March 28.
