Team Rocket RJN Adds Third McLaren For 2021 British GT

Team Rocket RJN, the team jointly owned by Chris Buncombe and Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button partnered with Bob Neville’s RJN Motorsport, has announced that it will enter a third McLaren 570S GT4 in the 2021 Intelligent Money British GT Championship.

In March the team announced two entries to the premier domestic GT series with McLaren Driver Development Programme drivers Katie Milner, Alain Valente, Michael Benyahia and Harry Hayek joining the Didcot-based squad.

The third McLaren will be piloted by James Kell and 2020 GT4 runner-up James Collard.

Collard, previously a member of the McLaren DDP, joins Team Rocket RJN from HHC Motorsport where he finished second overall in the GT4 drivers standings, piloting the #58 McLaren 570S GT4 alongside teammate Patrick Matthiesen.

James Kell started his racing career in the 2019 BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Super Cup and, with teammate Sam Smelt, drove the #23 Speedworks Motorsport Toyota GR Supra GT4 to eighth place in the 2020 overall GT4 drivers standings.

Jordan Collard is delighted to be joining Bob Neville’s team for the 2021 season.

“I’m very happy to return with McLaren and to be competing in the Intelligent Money British GT Championship with Team Rocket RJN,” said Collard. “The team were very strong last year with their GT3 project and we will be pushing hard for that top step from the opening weekend at Brands Hatch.”

James Kell is fulfilling a long-held ambition in driving for the Woking marque.

“It was a boyhood dream of mine to drive and be involved with McLaren, and Jenson was my idol growing up,” said Kell. “To now be joining Team Rocket RJN and having Jenson as one of the team owners is fantastic. I’m really looking forward to working with such an experienced team of professionals and looking forward to an amazing season and beyond.”

Team principal Bob Neville said:

“We are really pleased to expand our British GT programme further this year with another car. A huge welcome to Jordan and James to our team and I have no doubt we have a great line-up to able to fight hard for this championship.”
