Ferrari Crowned WEC Champions After Thrilling Bahrain Season Finale

Ferrari’s 2025 Title: 74 Points Clear

Ferrari took the 2025 FIA Hypercar World Endurance Manufacturers’ Championship after a thrilling season finale in Bahrain. The Italian marque finished on 245 points, 74 points ahead of Toyota, who took second place after a perfect weekend for the #7 and #8 Toyota GR010-Hybrids.

Porsche’s Hypercar Farewell Fades in Bahrain

Porsche was relegated to third in the Manufacturers standings after finishing 13th and 14th in the final outing for Porsche Penske Motorsport and the Porsche 963 in its current form.

Ferrari’s 2025 WEC title is the first for over 50 years for the Piacenza-based squad after its 1972 World Sportscar Championship campaign during which Ferrari won 10 of the 11 rounds, Mario Andretti and Jacky Ickx partnering for four of those victories.

The 2025 season was not as straightforward for the team headquartered in Maranello. Ferrari took victories in the opening three rounds which was followed by an emotional victory at Le Mans for the #83 AF Corse crew of Robert Kubica, Yifei Ye and Phil Hanson. The team only stood on the podium twice more following the twice-round-the-clock endurance classic with the #50 Ferrari 499P finishing second at COTA and third at the final round in Bahrain.

#51 Crew Crowned World Champions

With wins in Imola and Spa and a podium finish at Le Mans, the #51 crew of Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi claimed the 2025 Hypercar World Endurance Drivers Championship.

The #83 crew of Hanson, Kubica and Ye finished second while the #50 driver trio of Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Niklas Nielsen, courtesy of a position swap in the closing second of the Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain, finished third.

Calado’s Tears: “It’s Down to the Team”

Now four-time world champion James Calado was visibly emotional during the last laps of the Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain.

“Even before the race finished, I was almost in tears,” said the 36-year-old Cropthorne-born pilot. “It’s extremely emotional, of course, but this is really down to the team, because from when we started at Sebring in 2023 to now, you can’t imagine the effort and improvements that have been put into the whole programme to get us to where we are today.

“To become Manufacturers’ and Drivers’ champions, and also to be second and third in the Drivers’ championship just shows our strength, and we never give up. It was definitely a tricky second half of the season but today we executed perfectly as a team, and that is reflected in the results. I need to extend a big thanks to everyone involved in this project, and my two teammates in particular. What an amazing achievement.”

Elkann: “A Dream Fulfilled”

Ferrari Chairman John Elkann, who was present in Bahrain for the race, was delighted to see his company reclaim the world title it first won in 1972.

“This milestone fills us with pride and represents the fulfilment of a dream – the culmination of a journey we began in 2022, when we decided to return to the top class of endurance racing,” he said.

“It has been a journey that saw us win Le Mans three consecutive times, and brings us today not only two world titles, but the celebration of the strength of the team that worked as one, facing the relentless challenges of endurance racing with humility, and with the drive to improve every single day.”

Eyes on Qatar 2026

With the 2025 season now completed, the focus now shifts to the 2026 FIA WEC which gets underway in Qatar on March the 28th.
