Ford Racing has announced that Sebastian Priaulx, Mike Rockenfeller and Logan Sargeant will drive the Ford Hypercar which will join the FIA World Endurance Championship grid in 2027. The drivers were revealed at the manufacturer’s Season Launch event in Detroit, Michigan.

From Blank Sheet to Le Mans

“Today we are twelve months away from being on the grid,” said Ford Racing Hypercar Performance Manager Dan Sayers. “In the world of global motorsport, that is a heart-stopping timeframe.

“To build a Hypercar programme from a blank sheet of paper to a Le Mans start-line in just under two years is, by any objective measure, almost impossible but at Ford Racing, making the impossible, possible is the only way we know how to work. We have spent the last year in the trenches and while the main event is still ahead of us, the soul of the machine is already beginning to roar.”

The Blue Oval’s entry into the senior class of the FIA WEC will use a chassis designed and developed by ORECA and a naturally aspirated 5.4-litre V8 which will be produced with the support of Red Bull Powertrains.

The Veteran and the Young Guns

Sebastian Priaulx and Mike Rockenfeller join the Hypercar programme after a 2025 season which saw the duo as teammates, alongside Ben Barker and Austin Cindric, driving the #64 Ford Multimatic Racing Mustang GT3 to third place in the GTD Pro Teams standings.

24-year-old Guernsey-born Priaulx made his debut in sportscars in the 2019 British GT Championship, driving the #15 Multimatic Motorsports Ford Mustang GT4 with teammate Scott Maxwell. The duo finished second in the GT4 drivers standings in a season that saw them win in only their second race at Oulton Park.

Priaulx then turned his sights towards the US and won the Porsche Carrera Cup North America with Kelly-Moss Road and Race. Priaulx has been in demand over the past four seasons with campaigns in the FIA WEC and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship culminating in the third-place finish in the GTD Pro class in the 2025 IMSA SportsCar Championship.

To complement his preparations for the 2027 season, Priaulx, with Rockenfeller, will contest the LMP2 class in the 2025 European Le Mans Series as well as compete in the 2026 FIA WEC in Proton Competition’s LMGT3 assault.

As an ex-Audi factory driver and Le Mans winner, 42-year-old Rockenfeller brings significant experience to the Ford Racing Hypercar programme. Rockenfeller has been competing in sportscars since 2001, won the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans with Audi Sport North America alongside Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas and took the DTM title with Phoenix Racing in 2013. Rockenfeller has competed in IMSA competition since 2004 and has driven for Ford Multimatic Motorsports in the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

Ex-F1 pilot Logan Sargeant signed for Williams for the 2022 season. The then-21-year-old made his debut in a practice session for the 2022 US Grand Prix and made his race debut at the 2023 season opener in Bahrain. After a challenging season, Sargeant finished 21st in the drivers standings and did not complete the 2024 season.

Originally announced as part of the Genesis Magma Racing programme in preparation for its Hypercar entry in the FIA WEC, Sargeant withdrew, stating that he needed a break after the demands of competing at the highest level of single-seater competition. Alongside the preparation for Ford’s Hypercar entry, Sargeant will compete in the 2026 WEC season, driving the Proton Competition Ford Mustang GT3 entry alongside Stefano Gattuso and Giammarco Levorato.

Reclaiming the Legacy

Dan Sayers is delighted with the driver selection.

“Seb is pure, natural talent, Rocky is the veteran who has seen it all and won it all while Logan brings a level of technical sophistication and high-performance experience that is vital for a programme of this scale,” he said. “Having an American back in a Ford at Le Mans feels right. It’s a nod to giants like Dan Gurney and AJ Foyt, who showed the world back in 1967 what happens when American grit meets global ambition.

“We have the engine, we have the drivers and we have the vision but the work is far from over. We are building more than just a car – we’re building a legacy. We are reclaiming our seat at the top table of endurance racing.”
