The #88 Abba Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 driven by the father-and-son duo of Richard and Sam Neary, took pole for Race One of the second weekend of the 2021 GT Cup Championship at Brands Hatch on May 1.
The #88 Mercedes lapped the iconic GP circuit in 1:24.300, 1.568 seconds quicker than Michael Igoe in the #18 WPI Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3 he shares with factory driver Phil Keen.
Completing the top three was Adam Balon, at the wheel of the invitational #63 Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini GT3, who lapped in 1:26.128
Taking class pole in the GTO category was Richard Chamberlain in his #5 CTR Developments Porsche 935 who will start, in class, ahead of the #7 Raw Motorsports Radical RXC GT3 driven by Steve Burgess and Ben Dimmack.
The 15-minute Group One qualifying session was interrupted by a Safety Car period due to an incident involving the #55 JMH Automotive Lamborghini piloted by John Seale. Seale returned to the garages and qualifying resumed with just over three minutes remaining.
Group Two qualifying saw the the #34 GTB Team HARD Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup entry of Richard Marsh and Sam Randon go quickest, Marsh lapping 1:29.977, just over half a second quicker than than #30 Invitational GTB Alp Racing Saker Rapex of Alan Purbrick and David Brise.
Taking class pole in the GTH category was the #1 Orange Racing powered by JMH McLaren 570S GT4 of Simon Orange and Josh Jackson who lapped in 1:32.961. Lining up alongside the #1 entry in class will be #66 Enduro Motorsport Mercedes driven by Morgan Tillbrook and Marcus Clutton.
Pole in the GTA class went to Henry Dawes in the #106 Century Motorsport Ginetta G55 Supercup entry.
Race One of the two-race one-day meeting gets underway at 12:10 on May 1.
