Surrey-based Barwell Motorsport has announced the first of its 2023 British GT Championship driver pairings. Mark Sansom and Will Tregurtha will drive one of two Black Bull Scotch Whiskey-backed Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2s in the UK’s premier domestic GT championship.
Barwell took both the drivers and teams titles in 2020 and 2021 and finished as runners-up in both title races in 2022 with Adam Balon and Sandy Mitchell.
Mark Sansom enters his third season in the British GT Championship after having finished 8th in the GT3 Silver/Am Cup drivers standings in 2022, sharing the driving duties in the #3 Assetto Motorsport Bentley Continental GT3 with Will Tregurtha.
Will Tregurtha first contested the British GT Championship in 2017 when he won the GT4 drivers title alongside Stuart Middleton.
Barwell Motorsport Team Principal Mark Lemmer is looking forward to seeing how competitive Tregurtha and Sansom will be behind the wheel of the team’s Huracan GT3 EVO2.
“Barwell will be back up to full strength with a two-car attack in British GT once again next season, with a pair of fabulous-looking new Huracan EVO2s,” said Lemmer. “We are delighted to announce the first of our two entries, welcoming on board the hugely talented Will Tregurtha alongside the very rapid Am driver, Mark Sansom. We have been following their progress for a while now and we are confident that they will be up front and challenging for overall podiums right from the word go.”
Mark Samson said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to race with Barwell in the new Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2. Barwell have unsurpassed championship pedigree and I’ve been hugely impressed with what I’ve seen of how they operate.
“I’m also delighted to continue my partnership with Will Tregurtha. He’s outstandingly quick and we worked well together last season, so we’re excited to see what we can do together with Barwell this year.”
“I’m ecstatic to be racing with Barwell in the upcoming British GT season,” said Will Tregurtha. “The team has a proven track record of consistent wins and championships – this is hugely exciting for me and I know, as a pair, Mark Sansom and I can fly. We gelled well last year and it’s an absolute pleasure to race with him. Bring on 2023!”
