Barwell’s Balon and Mitchell win the Silverstone 500

The #72 Barwell Motorsport, piloted by Adam Balon and, taking the chequered flag, Sandy Mitchell, won the Silverstone 500, Round Three of the 2022 Intelligent Money British GT Championship. At the end of the three-hour contest, Lamborghini factory driver Mitchell crossed the line just over half a second ahead of the #88 Garage 59 McLaren 720S GT3 driven by Alexander West and, driving the final stint, Marvin Kirchoefer.

Victory for the Barwell Motorsport duo was the second for Lamborghini factory driver Mitchell and the first for British GT stalwart Adam Balon.

Completing the overall podium positions was the #28 Optimum Motorsport McLaren in which Nick Moss and Joe Osborne finished just under 35 seconds behind the #88 McLaren.

The #32 Redline Racing Lamborghini, piloted by Alex Malykhin and James Dorlin, finished in fourth place with the #8 Team Abba Racing Mercedes of father-and-son duo of Richard and Sam Neary completing the top five.

The GT4 category saw victory go to the Newbridge Motorsport Pro-Am partnership of Matt Topham and Aston Martin factory driver Darren Turner in the #27 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4, Turner taking the chequered flag just under 30 seconds ahead of the #90 Century Motorsport Silver Cup BMW M4 GT4 piloted by Jack Brown and Will Burns.

The overall GT4 podium was completed by the #42 Steller Motorsport Silver Cup Silver Cup R8 LMS GT4 driven by Richard Williams and, taking the chequered flag, Senna Fielding.

In the GT4 Pro-Am category, finishing second to overall and Pro-Am winners Newbridge Motorsport was the #21 Century Motorsport Aston Martin of David Holloway and Bradley Ellis with the #68 Team BRIT McLaren 570S GT4 piloted by Aaron Morgan and Bobby Trundley completing the Pro-Am podium.

The race was run without penalties as the result of Race Two at Oulton Park is currently being disputed. All results from Round Three are provisional.
