United Autosports has announced that Darren Leung will be joining the Wakefield-based squad to drive alongside Marino Sato in the team’s #95 McLaren 720S GT3 EVO for the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship.
Leung has enjoyed a rapid rise through the sportscar racing ranks, having begun his racing career just four years ago.
Leung began racing in 2021, competing in the Rookie Class of the Ginetta GT Academy. In 2022, he had a packed schedule, racing in the Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 Supercup Championship alongside outings in the British GT Championship where he drove the Assetto Motorsport Ginetta G56 GT4 and the Century Motorsport BMW M4 GT3. Alongside Alexander Sims, Leung took his first senior class win at Donington Park in that year.
In 2023, Leung contested a full season in the British GT Championship, winning the GT3 title with teammate Dan Harper, driving the #91 Century Motorsport BMW M4 GT3.
Leung graduated to international programmes in 2024 with an entry into the Asian Le Mans Series with Project 1 and his debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship with Team WRT. Driving the #31 BMW M4 GT3 with teammates Sean Galael and Augusti Farfus, the trio took their first win in class at Imola followed by 2nd in class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Leung, Galael and Farfus went on to finish 4th in the FIA Endurance Trophy for LMGT3 Drivers.
“I am delighted to join United Autosports and McLaren for the 2025 World Endurance Championship,” said Darren Leung. “Their commitment to their WEC programme is truly inspiring and I’m eager to contribute to the team’s efforts as we take on some of the most iconic circuits in the world.”
“As a proud Yorkshireman, racing for a Yorkshire-based team makes this opportunity even more special. I can’t wait for the chance to see our national flag raised above the top step of the podium.”
United Autosports CEO Ricard Dean is delighted to welcome a fellow Yorkshireman to the team for 2025.
“Darren has quickly established himself as a driver you want on your side,” he said. “His rise in motorsports has been pretty amazing to watch over the past four seasons so we are extremely proud that he is now part of United Autosports and McLaren Automotive team. Darren believes in this LMGT3 programme with the same passion that we do and I believe that we have a very exciting future together. Plus he’s a fellow Yorkshireman which is always a good thing!”
The third driver to complete the #95 trio will be announced immenently.
