August Farfus Jr, at the wheel of the #42 BMW Team Schnitzer BMW M6 GT3 won the SJM Macau GT Cup – FIA GT World Cup at Macau.

Farfus Jr took the chequered flag less than a second ahead of Maro Engel, driving the #888 Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Completing the podium positions was Edoardo Mortara in the sister #1 Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM Racing entry, .842 seconds behind Engel.

Farfus Jr. led from pole position, pulling out a gap of over a second on the first two laps over Raffaele Marciello in the #999 Team GruppeM Racing entry. A mistake by Marciello at Lisboa Bend forced the Italian to rejoin the field in tenth place, before recovering one position to finish ninth.

Maro Engel, piloting the #888 Team GruppeM Racing entry, then closed on Farfus Jr. but was unable to close the gap to the leader sufficiently to attempt a pass.

The Brazilian driver was delighted at his victory.

“I am out of words,” said Augusto Farfus Jr. “This win has such a special meaning. Many years ago we lost a championship here and today we won.”
