Ghiotto, Kirchhöfer And Caldwell To Drive For R-Motorsport At Bathurst. (14.01.20)

R-Motorsport has announced drivers for the Swiss-based team’s second entry for the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, the first round of the 2020 Intercontinental GT Challenge.

Sharing the driving duties in the #62 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 will be Luca Ghiotto, Marvin Kirchhöfer and newcomer Olli Caldwell. The team had previously announced that its #76 entry will be driven by Scott Dixon, Rick Kelly and Jake Dennis.

Olli Caldwell began his racing career in 2013 in the IAME Cadet class of Super One Series Championship before graduating to cars in 2016. The 17-year-old has competed primarily in single-seaters, having contested F4 championships in the UK, Italy and Germany. The Hampshire-based driver finished fifth in the 2019 Formula 3 Regional European Championship. Caldwell is no stranger to GT machinery, however, and took victory in GT4 class at the Gulf 12 Hours I 2018.

2020 will see the debut of 24-year-old Luca Ghiotto in GT3 machinery, the young Italian driver having spent most of his career to date in Formula categories. The 2017 Williams Grand Prix test driver finished third in the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship.

Marvin Kirchhöfer is no stranger to R-Motorsport, having contested the 2018 and 2019 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup with the team. The 25-year-old German finished second in the 2019 Bathurst 12 Hour with teammates Jake Dennis and Matthieu Vaxiviere.

Olli Caldwell is looking forward to his first race at Mount Panorama.

“I find it really exciting to start in the famous Bathurst 12 Hour with a team as professional and successful as R-Motorsport,” said Caldwell. “The Swiss company has an impressive success story and I am looking forward to the enormous challenge that the Mount Panorama course offers.

“I want learn as much as possible from everyone on the team so I can quickly adapt my driving style to the requirements of the Aston Martin Vantage GT3. I can’t wait to go out on my first lap on the mountain circuit!”

“We are proud to launch the strongest GT3 driver line-up we have ever had,” said Team Principal Dr, Florian Kamelger. “With Luca Ghiotto and Olli Caldwell, we welcome two young talents to the team who form a driver trio together with the experienced R-Motorsport pro Marvin Kirchhöfer. Together with Scott Dixon, Rick Kelly and Jake Dennis in the Aston Martin Vantage in Castrol colours, they complete our promising two-car team.”

Track action for the 2020 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour gets underway on Friday January 31.
