GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS Announces Revised 2020 Calendar. (30.04.20)

The GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS has announced a revised schedule for the 2020 season.

The new schedule sees the series start at Autopolis, Japan on July 11 – 12 followed by visits to Fuji Speedway (July 25 – 16 or August 1 – 2), Shanghai (September 12 -13 and October 17 -18) and concluding with a season finale at Sepang on December 5 – 6.

The revised five-event calendar will feature three races at two of the weekends to ensure that 11 races take place, in line with the original schedule.

“I am delighted that we’ve been able to reschedule Sepang, a very popular venue amongst our teams and drivers, and one that also accounts for some logistical considerations as many teams have workshops there,” said Championship Coordinator Benjamin Franassovici. “It’s a sensible choice for everyone and also a perfect opportunity for some exciting new support series to join GT World Challenge Asia.”

“The postponement of Tokyo’s Olympic Games has opened up a few opportunities to visit Fuji later in the year, although this will depend on Japan’s Coronavirus response and any restrictions that might be in place,” continued Franassovici. “Dates in late July and early August have been secured, while there are other options elsewhere in Asia if necessary.”

The Suzuka 10 Hours remains unaffected by the rescheduling of the GT World Challenge Asia calendar.
