Following the decision by BLACK FALCON that it will no longer be contesting professional GT3 sport, Hubert Haupt, who has raced with the Nürburgring-based team since 2014, has announced that he will launch his own team to contest the GT World Challenge Powered by AWS.
The team will initially enter one car in the Endurance Cup and Haupt will be joined by Vincent Abril, Maro Engel and Luca Stolz.
Several team personnel from BLACK FALCON have joined the 51-year-old entrepreneur and property developer in his new venture, including team principal Sean Breslin, technical director Marvin Wagner and engineer Renaud Dufour.
Haupt is excited by the opportunities that his new team offers.
“I’me really looking forward to the new challenge,” said Haupt. Throughout my years in motorsport, I have always had this idea of setting up my own team. I know that this involves a lot of commitment and a huge responsibility. But with the future constellation and these top people at my side, I am convinced that establishing HRT is the right decision.
“Especially now, in difficult times for sporting events, I also wanted to give a sign that things are contunuuing and that I am keeping my faith in the fascination of motorsport. I am convinced that, with HRT, we will find our place amoung the top teams in GT3 racing really soon.”
The 2020 GT World Challenge Powered by AWS opens at Imola on July 25 -2 6 and is preceded by a two-day ‘Back On Track’ test session at Spa-Francorchamps on July 10 – 11.
