Hyundai Motorsport has announced that it intends to enter top-level endurance racing, subject to entry being granted by the series organisers, with a programme marketed under its premium Genesis brand.
In a release on September 12th Hyundai Motorsport and Genesis said:
“Genesis is proud to announce its ambitious entry into the world of endurance racing through the LMDh programme. Genesis is actively exploring programmes to strengthen its high-performance image, and after a thorough evaluation of various options, LMDh emerged as the most strategic choice for us at this time.
The manufacturer continued:
“We have carefully analysed LMDh and found it to be a natural fit for our motorsport ambitions and a valuable platform to drive the development of future mobility technologies for road cars. Endurance racing presents an unparalleled opportunity to showcase Genesis’ cutting-edge technology, design philosophy and performance-driven character in a highly competitive arena.
“This project is part of our broader vision for the future of mobility.”
Hyundai has a considerable pedigree in top-level motorsport, having returned to the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2014 with the i20 with a programme is based at Hyundai Motorsport GmbH at Alzenau in Germany. The Korean manufacturer has also achieved success in the TCR Touring Car class with customer-team BRC Racing Team clinching the inaugural WTCR Driver’s Championship in 2018.
The manufacturer has not stated when it is looking to debut its LMDh entry or which chassis its car will be based on.
