Andrea Piccini’s Iron Lynx is in a confident mood ahead of the Qatar 1812km, the opening round of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship. The team is entering a pair of Mercedes-AMG GT3s, marking the return, after 26 years, of the Affalterbach-based manufacturer to the highest level of sportscar competition.
The Iron Lynx #60 Mercedes-AMG GT3 will be driven by Claudio Schiavoni, Matteo Cressoni and Matteo Cairoli while the sister #61 entry is piloted by Christian Ried, Lin Hoddenius and Maxime Martin. The team worked steadily throughout the two-day Official Prologue with Maxime Martin setting the best time round the 5.419km Losail International Circuit with a 1:55.571 during the final session.
Team Principal and CEO Andrea Piccini is looking forward to the first practice session for the Qatar 1812km, set to get underway at 11.30 local time on Wednesday February 26.
“We cannot wait for the start of practice and for the opening race,” he said. “We worked very hard to be prepared for it and we tried to be as efficient as possible in the time available since we joined forces with AMG. After the two positive days of the Prologue, we target to continue improving our knowledge of the car and the development of the engine control with torque sensors during the three practice sessions. After that, we will focus on optimising our strategy for the race.”
The lights go out for the opening round of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship, the Qatar 1812km, at 14.00 local on Friday February 28.
