18-year-old Danish driver Jan Jønck has joined Macmillan AMR to partner Williams Phillips in the team’s Aston Martin Vantage V8 GT4.
The young Dane began his driving career in karts in 2011 and raced in two rounds of the Formula 4 Italy Championship in 2014. In 2016, he contested the BRDC Formula 3 Championship with Sean Walkinshaw Racing, finishing 16th in the standings.
“Britain has always been a mecca for motorsport and I’m very excited to be developing my career in the UK,” said Jønck. “It’s a great place to race.”
“The British GT Championship is one of the most competitive series in Europe, with lots of international-standard drivers and teams. The circuits are great, too. Well-run, exciting and challenging – some of the best anywhere – and the mix of classes, with GT3 and GT4 together, makes for very competitive and very exciting racing.”
Jønck is confident that he and William Phillips will be a competitive pairing for the start of the season.
“I felt very comfortable with the team and the car, right away,” continued Jønck. “The atmosphere in the team is great and there is a really good work ethic and I hope that we’ll be able to target podium finishes, right from the start of the season.”
Team Principal David Macmillan is very confident in his GT4 driver pairing for the 2017 British GT Championship.
“The combination of Jan and Will is hugely exciting,” said Macmillan. “We’re heading into our second season in GT4, with two young chargers, a good grounding in British GT and a year of learning under our belts.”
“Last season was all about learning the ropes,” continued Macmillan. “This year we will be targeting podium finishes and hopefully, race wins.”
The first round of the 2017 British GT Championship takes place at Oulton Park on April 15 – 17.
