A ‘championship within a championship’ has been launched with the announcement that the Japan Cup will form part of the 2022 Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS series.
Organisers SRO Motorsports Group has included the Japan Cup within the championship with four of the six planned rounds to be included as points-scoring for the new series.
The Japan Cup will be open to drivers who hold Japan Automobile Federation licenses and the rounds to be included in the new championship will be planned to avoid clashes with Super GT and Super Taikyu dates.
The 2022 GT World Challenge Asia calendar is due to open at Sepang International Circuit on May 20 – 22 but the organisers say they will confirm the schedule ‘in due course’.
