French engine-builder Mecachrome has been confirmed as engine supplier for the new Ginetta LMP1 project. Ginetta had previously announced its plans in January to build an LMP1 car for 2018.
Ginetta Technical Director Ewan Baldry was impressed with the engine manufacturer’s experience, expertise and production facilities when he visited Mecachrome’s head office early in February.
“We are delighted to be working with Bruno (Engelric – Mecachrome Motorsport Manager) and Mecachrome on the Ginetta LMP1 engine,” said Baldry. “Both parties see the current landscape in LMP1 as the perfect opportunity to become involved in the project and we look forward to a very exciting 2017.”
“Mecachrome are very much looking forward to working with Ginetta as they make the journey towards LMP1,” said Bruno Engelric. “Having spent time with the team in the UK and France, it’s clear we both have some fantastic personnel working on the project and we look forward to the future.”
Ginetta is currently in the process of finalising the details on other elements of the programme and a preview event will take place in March with interested teams and drivers in attendance.
