Raceway announces full-season British GT entry with Middleton and Tomlinson

Luca Hirst’s Raceway Motorsport has announced that it will contest the full season of the 2023 Intelligent Money British GT Championship with its Ginetta G56 GT4 to be piloted by Freddie Tomlinson and Stuart Middleton.

Raceway Motorsport, based in Pontefract, is best known for its success in Ginetta one-make series where it has won championships in the GRDC, the G40 Cup and the GTA Championship. The team also completed 2022 as Pro category vice-champions in the Porsche Sprint Challenge with Rupert Lablett.

Stuart Middleton is no stranger to the British GT Championship, having won the GT4 drivers title in 2017 with teammate Will Tregurtha. The 23-year-old has gone on to race internationally, notably in the Lamborghini Huracan in which he has contested the Super Trofeo Europe in 2019 where he finished third, the Super Trofeo North America and the Italian GT Championship.

Stuart Middleton is delighted to be returning to the British GT Championship and with the same manufacturer that he enjoyed title success with six years ago.

“It is a pleasure to be back on home soil and to compete in British GT once again,” he said. “I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the Ginetta and working together with Freddie and the team. I won the GT4 championship back in 2017, so there’s only one aim: win the title again!”

Freddie Tomlinson, son of Ginetta manufacturer Lawrence Tomlinson, already has one season of experience in the G56, having driven alongside Joe Wheeler in the Assetto Motorsport British GT entry in 2022.

“After a good learning year in 2022, I am delighted to announce that I have signed to return this year and I am hoping that we will be able to extract the true potential out of the car to be battling at the front,” said Freddie Tomlinson.

Raceway Motorsport Team Principal Luca Hirst said: “We are delighted to be working with Freddie and Stuart in 2023. We supported Freddie in his early years of karting and it’s been great to see him progress up Ginetta’s motorsport ladder since then. His existing experience of the G56 GT4 will help us enormously as Raceway gears up for what appears to be an incredibly competitive British GT season.

“Stuart, of course, requires little introduction. He was one of those who looked to be going places when he raced in Ginetta’s junior categories but still probably surprised a few people outside of those circles when he won the GT4 title with Will [Tregurtha] in 2017. He’s gone on to race faster cars, of course, but I also know he’s relishing the opportunity to be the elder statesman – if that’s possible at 23! – this year. Between him and Freddie I think we’ve put together a very capable Silver pairing.”

The 2023 Intelligent Money British GT Championship gets underway at Oulton Park on April 8 & 10.
