26-year-old French Argentinian driver Sacha Fenestraz is to pilot one of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s GR010-Hybrids at the FIA WEC Rookie Test which takes place the day after the Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain.

Based in Annecy, France, Fenestraz began his racing career in karts before graduating to the French F4 Championship in 2015. After competing in Formula 3 Europe in 2018 driving the Carlin Dallara F317 and finishing 11th in the standings with three podium finishes including one win, Fenestraz moved to Japan to contest the Formula 3 Japan series with B-Max Racing with Motorpark, dominating the championship with 18 podium finishes in 20 races, including eight victories.

Fenestraz made his Formula E debut in 2022 with Dragon/Penske Autosport at the Seoul E Prix, replacing an injured Antonio Giovinazzi. He embarked on a full Formula E season with Nissan in 2023, taking two pole positions on his way to finishing 16th in the standings.

In 2025, Fenestraz is competing in Super GT with TGR Team SARD and Super Formula with Valentin Team TOM’s, winning last time out at Fuji Speedway after starting from pole.

“I’m excited to be taking part in my first-ever Hypercar experience – a real milestone in my racing career,” said Fenestraz. “Driving on the iconic Bahrain International Circuit for the very first  time will make this moment even more special. Competing in an FIA WEC prototype has always been a dream of mine and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”

Preparations have already taken place to make sure Fenestraz is ready for his first stint behind the wheel of the Toyota GR010-Hybrid.

“The preparation with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has gone smoothly,” he said. “We have completed a half-day simulator session to get ready for the test and I’ve studied the driver manuals to familiarise myself with the various steering wheel functions. My background in Formula E and Super Formula proved valuable in quickly understanding the systems but this session was still a crucial step in adapting to both the car and the track.

“The hypercar’s driving characteristics differ significantly from what I’m used to in Super Formula. With slightly lower downforce, the car tends to understeer in high-speed corners and braking requires a more measured approach. However, features like traction control and the hybrid system offer great support in maximising performance. I’m looking forward to making the most of this incredible experience.”
