Student Motorsport to present 2022 Student Motorsport Challenge car at MsD LIVE 2021

Following a successful debut at MotorsportDays LIVE (MsD LIVE) in 2019, Student Motorsport is returning to the event in 2021 and will be partnering the British Racing & Sports Car Club (BRSCC) to promote the inaugural season of the Student Motorsport Challenge, an intra-series within the BRSCC Nankang Tyre CityCar Cup Championship.

Student Motorsport, founded by JP Latham (pictured above at West Suffolk College in September 2021 during their parts delivery day), is a membership network dedicated to careers and educational development within motorsport.  The Student Motorsport Challenge is set to provide colleges and universities with a unique entry-point to motorsport and access to the industry eco-system through a sustainable, meaningful, and industry-relevant project.

Student-based teams are given the opportunity to compete on and off-track against like-minded individuals and on-track alongside professional competitors. Using the budget-friendly Peugeot 107, Citroën C1 and Toyota Aygo built to the CityCar Cup regulations, teams will be immersed in a broad range of activities and tasks providing an unprecedented opportunity to gain the employability skills, industry knowledge and the understanding required to operate successfully in an ever-changing and increasingly competitive environment.

The teams will compete on track for outright honors in the Student Motorsport Challenge, and off-track for a variety of awards such as Team Professionalism, Car Preparation, Media and Commercial Activities.  A comprehensive set of modular content provided by Student Motorsport will introduce students to topics such as racecar preparation, race team planning, and logistics as well as providing a full build guide for the car.

MsD LIVE brings race teams, championships, manufacturers and clubs as well as brands, sponsors, and drivers together to showcase products, developments and opportunities live on Silverstone’s International circuit. The event has become synonymous with delivering a world-class trade event with a unique focus of on-track experiences at the home of British motorsport.

The Student Motorsport team in partnership with the BRSCC and championship parts supplier Essential Racing will be presenting a CityCar Cup championship car in garages 24 and 25 with support from students of West Suffolk College, the first team to declare an entry for the 2022 season.

Founder of Student Motorsport JP Latham: “We are proud to be working alongside the BRSCC in supporting new people entering into sustainable motorsport. Furthermore, we’re working hard to raise awareness of the vitally important work that colleges and universities are doing in motorsport education and how they are producing the next generation of motorsport professionals.

“We’re thrilled to be achieving this through the introduction of the Student Motorsport Challenge 2022 and we’re going to be at MsD LIVE 2021 to support our existing new entrants / teams in the series.

“We’re also going to be meeting educators and students interested in the Challenge and will be giving students from West Suffolk College some hands-on experience of running our Challenge car throughout the two days which is being used for passenger laps around the famous Silverstone circuit.”

The BRSCC’s head of Formulae Development Greg Graham: MsD Live presents the BRSCC and Student Motorsport with an excellent opportunity to showcase our CityCar Cup race car and the Student Motorsport Challenge in a live environment, and we’re very much looking forward to meeting representatives and students from colleges and universities to discuss their future involvement.

The BRSCC Nankang Tyre CityCar Cup Championship was conceptualised with a goal of introducing new and young drivers into motorsport, and our partnership with Student Motorsport is a key factor in the further development of those aims.”

MotorsportDays LIVE 2021 takes place at Silverstone on November 5 – 6 and tickets are free to order at www.motorsportdays.live.
