track-club Announces GT4 Entry In 2017 British GT Championship (11.01.17)

Huntingdon-based track-club, part of track-group, has announced that it will contest the 2017 British GT Championship with its new McLaren 570S GT4. Adam Balon and Adam Mackay will form the driver line-up.

This will be track-club’s first full-season entry into the premier national GT racing championship, having previously entered its Lotus Evora GT4 at Spa-Francorchamps in 2015.

Although Adam Balon and Adam Mackay have not been team-mates in the same car before, they have competed against each other as part of the same team in the Lotus Cup UK in 2016, a factor that Team Principal Stephen Docherty believes will be significant this season.

“As a team they work well together,” said Docherty. “”They spent the season competing against each other in a Lotus but, within the same team, from the outset they were sharing data and working on finding pace.”

Adam Mckay has been part of the Ecurie Ecosse Young Driver Programme and is the reigning Lotus Cup Supersport champion.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to race with Adam in 2017”, said Mckay. “Adam and I competed against each other in Lotus Cup UK last season and alongside each other at the Creventic Silverstone 24 Hours in April, so we’ve build a strong and understanding relationship over the course of 2016.”

Team Principal Stephen Docherty said, “Adam Mackay is, I believe, a really exciting prospect. As a team we have had a lot of talented drivers to work with us and he’s as good as anyone I’ve seen.”

“Adam Balon is a very disciplined driver intelligent driver who rarely makes mistakes that compromise the car,” continued Docherty. “The additional level of competition that the British GT Championship brings will really motivate him to continue his development and I think he’ll be one of the top amateurs in GT4.”

The British GT Championship season opens at Oulton Park on April 15 – 17 with the Media Day to be held on March 28 at Snetterton.
