Assetto Motorsport has announced that Will Tregurtha will partner Mark Sansom in the team’s Bentley Continental GT3 entry in the 2022 Intelligent Money British GT campaign. Andy Meyrick, who was previously announced, has other racing commitments that prevent him from commiting to a full season in the premier domestic GT championship.
21-year-old Tregurtha last raced in the British GT Championship in 2017, taking the GT4 title at the wheel of the HHC Motorsport Ginetta he shared with Stuart Middleton. The Milton Keynes-based driver has subsequently focused much of his racing in Germany where he has competed in the ADAC GT4 championship. GT Masters and NLS. In 2021 Tregurtha finished second in the DTM Trophy, driving the #85 CV Performance Group Mercedes-AMG GT4.
“I always hoped to return to British GT one day but didn’t expect it to happen this season with Bentley!” said Will Tregurtha. “I remember seeing the original announcement and thinking ‘wow, it would be cool to do that’ and now here I am gearing up for my first season in British GT’s senior class. Funny how things work out!
“But despite the late call up I feel 100% ready. I’ve raced at GT3’s top level in GT Masters, have the Pro-Am experience from GT Cup, and proved I have the individual speed by finishing second overall in a very competitive DTM Trophy season last year.
“I’ve also worked with Mark, so although the car is new to both of us and the team, our existing relationship means we’re not starting from square one. Equally, the Bentley is quite similar in proportion and style to the Nissan GT-R I’ve driven extensively.”
The 2022 Intelligent Money British GT Championship gets underway at Oulton Park on April 16 – 18.
