Walkenhorst / Farfus Quickest In Spa Pre-Qualifying. (22.10.22)

Augusto Farfus, at the wheel of the #34 Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 he shares with Nicky Catsburg and Philip Eng, went quickest in the 60-minute Pre Qualifying session for the Total 24 Hours of Spa. Farfus lapped the 7.004 kms Belgian circuit in 2:17.445, nearly half a second quicker than Timur Boguslavskiy in the #88 Mercedes-AMG Team AKKA ASP Mercedes-SMG GT3.

Third quickest overall was the Silver Cup #78 Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Eco, Patrick Kujala driving in the car he shares with Alex McDowall and Frederick Shandorff.

In the Silver Cup category, the #89 AKKA ASP Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Alex Fontana, Lucas Legeret and Benjamin Hites was second quickest with a 2:18.821 followed by the #159 Garage 59 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 of Andrew Watson, James Pull, Valentin Hasse Clot and Romain De Angelis.

Quickest in the Pro-Am category was the #991 Herberth Motorsport Porsche 991 GT3-R of Daniel Alleman, Ralf Bohn, Robert Renauer and Alfred Renauer while the #26 Sainteloc Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 headed the time sheets in the Am Cup class.

The 60-minute Pre-Qualifying session got underway at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps with dry and cool conditions greeting the 56-car field.

With Andrea Caldarelli in the #63 Lamborghini having set the quickest time in the morning’s practice session, the Italian lapping in 2:19.030 in damp conditions, a target had been set to be immediately beaten by Farfus in the 34 Walkenhorst BMW M6 GT3.

There was drama for the #52 AF Corse Ferrari F488 GT3 with Andrea Bertolini at the wheel. Bertolini slowed and then stopped on track at Turn 15, causing the session to be red flagged with 40 mins remaining. As the session was practice, the clock continued to run down.

Track running resumed with 32 minutes left and Andy Soucek in the #9 K-PAX Racing Bentley Continental GT3 went third quickest with a 2:18.105 but was immediately beaten by Patrick Kujala in the #78 Huracan, Kujala lapping in 2:18.055.

The first of four 15-minute qualifying sessions get underway at 18:55 local time on Thursday October 22 ahead of night practice at 20:35.

The Super Pole qualifying session for the top twenty qualifying entries starts at 18:20 local time on Friday October 23 with the lights going out the Total 24 Hours of Spa at 15:30 on Saturday October 24.
