The crew of the #51 Ferrari AF Corse Ferrari 499P won the 2024 Pit Stop Challenge at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The Pit Stop Challenge was first introduced in 2022 and has previously been won by Toyota and Peugeot. However, on an overcast Tuesday afternoon at the start of race week and in front of a huge crowd who had gathered in the pit lane for the drivers autograph session, the #51 Ferrari AF Corse crew got their car off the ground, changed all four wheels and dropped the Ferrari 499P off its air jacks in 9.68 seconds to, beating the time of 10.067 seconds set in 2023.
The crew emphasised the training they undergo every day. “We do five (pit stops) a day on average,” said a team member. “The goal is to go under ten seconds but we only have on try!”
The LMP2 winner was the #14 AO by TF ORECA crew with a time of 10.75 seconds while the LMGT3 category was won by the team of the #31 Team WRT BMW M4 LMGT3 with a time of 10.65 seconds.
The Pit Stop Challenge concluded the gap between the Test Day on Sunday and the start of track action for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. As soon as the autograph session was over, drivers and engineers were back concentrating on final set-ups ahead of the cars going out for their first practice session at 2.00pm on Wednesday June the 12th
