Lincolnshire-based Balfe Motorsport has announced the driver line-up for its second GT4 entry in the 2020 British GT Championship.
Mia Flewitt will partner with McLaren factory driver Eaun Hankey in a second Balfe Motorsport McLaren 570S GT4, the team having previously announced that Graham Johnson and Michael O’Brien would be returning for the new season.
Mia Flewitt has considerable experience in the 570S GT4, having competed in the Pure McLaren GT Series in 2018 and 2019 and, with teammate Stewart Proctor, taking the title on both occasions.
32-year-old Eaun Hankey was Flewitt’s driver coach for the winning seasons and has a GT driving pedigree stretching back to 2010 when he first competed in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Hankey won the SP3 class at the 2015 24H Dubai in the Optimum Motorsport Ginetta G55 GT4 as well as having experience racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the European Le Mans Series. The Somerset-based driver previously competed in the British GT Championship in 2018.
Mia Flewitt, who gained British GT experience in 2019 after competing in selected rounds, is looking forward to the challenges ahead.
“I’m very excited to join Balfe Motorsport for our Pro-Am championship challenge in 2020 and looking forward to sharing my McLaren 570S GT4 with my driver-coach of the past two years, and recently appointed McLaren factory driver, Euan Hankey,” said Flewitt.
“Having just finished in second place in the Gulf 12 Hours together with Balfe Motorsport, it gives me great confidence in our team’s ability to deliver when it counts. Bring on 2020!”
Factory driver Hankey is also looking forward to seeing his pupil progress over the 2020 season.
“Having been (Mia Flewitt’s) driver coach over the last two years, it’s been exciting to be a part of her development and hopefully we’ll be continuing that success in 2020,” said Hankey. “Having recently finished second in a Balfe Motorsport one-two at the Gulf 12 Hours, it was great to see and experience what a great team they are and I’m looking forward to developing that relationship further.”
The 2020 British GT Championship season gets underway at Oulton Park on April 11 – 13.
