Japan’s Team GMB has announced that it will contest the new-for-2020 Pro-Am class in the GT World Challenge Asia series.
Team owner Hiroaki Hatano, who previously raced in Super Taikyu, the All Japan GT Championship and the VITA Trophy Endurance Series, will be joined by 2015 and ’16 VITA Trophy Champion Takumi Kuroiwa in the team’s Mercedes-AMG GT4.
Hiroaki Hatano is looking forward to the new challenge in 2020.
“We have a lot of experience in Japan but this will be our first appearance in a pan-Asian championship and we can’t wait to get started,” said Hatano. “The Mercedes-AMG is a proven performer in GT World Challenge Asia and around the world so we’re starting from a good base. Hopefully we can follow in the footsteps of our Japanese counterpart, BMW Team Studie, which has enjoyed much success over the last two years.”
The 2020 GT World Challenge Asia gets underway at Sepang International Circuit on March 28 – 29 and visits Chang, Fuji and Suzuka before a season finale at Shanghai International Circuit on October 17 – 18.
