Ciceley Motorsport, the racing arm of the Lancashire-based Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle dealership, has announced it will return to the Intelligent Money British GT Championship for the 2021 season, campaigning its Mercedes-AMG GT4.
Driving for Ciceley Motorsport in the nine-round championship will be Jake Giddings and Dave Whitmore.
Jake Giddings is no stranger to the British GT Championship, having lifted the GT4 title with Beechdean AMR in 2014 alongside teammate Ross Wylie.
The 26-year-old Cambridgeshire-based driver is looking forward to returning to the championship in which he last competed in 2017.
“It’s great to be back on the British GT grid this year and I’m looking forward to the challenge again,” said Giddings. “Having won the GT4 championship back in 2014, I know the level of commitment and determination it takes to secure the title.
“Having raced with Ciceley Motorsport in the 24hr of Dubai twice I know the team and the car really well. The car is not only fast but also meticulously prepared, so I am sure we will be competitive from the off. We have a comprehensive test schedule in place and I am really looking forward to working with my new teammate Dave Whitmore.”
Dave Whitmore began his racing career in the Mazda MX-5 SuperCup in 2014 and competed, alongside teammate Luke Sedzikowski, in two rounds of the 2020 British GT Championship with Century Motorsport.
“This will be my first full season competing in British GT,” said Whitmore. “It’s been a dream of mine and my entire professional life has been focused on securing this seat! The guys at Ciceley Motorsport are great. We have just finished our first test and I love the Mercedes GT4.
“I am keen to learn as much as I can from Jake, who is enthusiastic and helpful both in and out of the car. It is a fantastic feeling to be competing at such a high level on the British GT package as only a few years ago I was watching from home.”
The 2021 Intelligent Money British GT Championship gets underway at Brands Hatch on May 22 – 23.
