BMW M Motorsport has announced that Kevin Magnusen will become a BMW M works driver. The exact programme for 32-year-old current Haas Formula 1 driver across both the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship has yet to be announced.
Magnusson is no stranger to sportscar competition, having driven in the DPi class in the 2021 IMSA championship alongside Renger Van der Zande, Scott Dixon and Earl Bamber in the #5 Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac DP1-V.R. Magnusson, with driving partner Van der Zande, took four 2nd-place finishes on their way to finishing 4th in the 2021 DPi Teams Standings.
The Haas Formula 1 pilot is looking forward to this new chapter in his racing career.
“I am happy and proud to represent such an iconic motorsport brand as BMW in some of the world’s most legendary races,” he said. “After ten years in Formula 1, I am embarking on a new and exciting chapter, and I look forward to taking on the challenge in the most innovative and advanced sports cars in the history of endurance racing.
“A huge thank to BMW M Motorsport for this fantastic opportunity. I can hardly wait to start the preparations and look forward to kicking off the 2025 season with the rest of the team.”
Head of BMW M Motorsport Andreas Roos explained how Magnussen will be a huge asset to the Munich manufacturer’s 2025 racing ambitions.
“Kevin Magnussen is an outstanding addition to our LMDh programme,” said Andreas Roos. “He has regularly demonstrated his speed at the highest level of Formula 1 over the past decade. His previous full season with a sports car programme in 2021 is another advantage for us, as it will surely ease his acclimatisation to the BMW M Hybrid V8.
“I am very delighted that Kevin Magnussen is part of the BMW M Motorsport family.”
