Optimum Motorsport To Enter Two Additional McLaren GT3s For Silverstone 500. (03.11.20)

Wakefield-based Optimum Motorsport has announced that it will enter two McLaren 720S GT3s for the final round of the 2020 Intelligent Money British GT Championship – the Silverstone 500.

The team has had one full season entry in the UK’s premier domestic racing series – the #96 Silver Cup McLaren driven by Lewis Proctor and Ollie Wilkinson. The duo currently lies eighth in the overall GT3 drivers standing.

Wilkinson and Proctor will be joined at Silverstone by Optimum’s GT Open Pro-Am pairing of Brendan Iribe and Ollie Milroy, while Mark Crader and Alex Mortimer join the GT3 grid after a season in the Michelin Le Mans Cup.

Ollie Milroy is looking forward to competing in the Intelligent Money British GT season finale at Silverstone.

“There are many great option for us to run in GT3 equipment in a variety of championships,” said Milroy. The fact that this final round of the British GT Championship tales place at Silverstone, a track that we both know and one of the greatest tracks in Europe – even in November – makes it especially appealing.

“I love the championship, and I know Brendan has watched every lap of every round this year in his spare time. He’s excellent in wet conditions, so we are both looking forward to it.”

2007 British GT champion Alex Mortimer is also excited about the opportunity to race at Silverstone.

“For me personally, I’m really excited to be going back to the British GT Championship,” said Mortimer. “I have very fond memories from my 2006 – 11 period there, including winning the championship in 2007. Mark and I are keen to do this event as with travel issues we have had limited race options this year.

“Mark remains fully committed to racing LMP3 prototypes going forward, but this is a good opportunity for him to get a taste of GT3 racing and at a circuit that he knows well.”

The final round of the 2020 Intelligent Money British GT Championship, the three-hour Silverstone 500 is on November 7 – 8.
