Speedworks Motorsports Returns For 2020 With Toyota. (27.02.20)

Cheshire-based Speedworks Motorsport has announced that it will return to the Intelligent Money British GT Championship in 2020 with the new-for-2020 Toyota GR Supra GT4.

Sam Smelt and James Kell will form the driving duo for the team who won the GT4 championship in 2010.

Team Principal Christian Dick is excited at the prospect of rejoining the premier domestic GT championship with one of just six of the new three-litre six-cylinder turbo-powered GR Supras competing globally.

“We’re delighted to have been entrusted with running the new Toyota GR Supra GT4 in the British GT Championship this season,” said Christian Dick. “Having been lucky enough to see the development and subsequent performance of the car close up in Spain, I can vouch for the fact that it is a tremendously impressive piece of kit – superbly built with plenty of grunt – and this programme will dovetail nicely with our BTCC commitments.

“Our main aim this year is to prove the Toyota GR Supra GT4’s potential in the hugely competitive GT4 arena. The project has come together quite late so we are remaining reasonably realistic about our expectations to begin with, but with the technical and engineering support of TMG, I’m sure we will soon have a solid understanding of the car and be on the pace very quickly.”

The 2020 Intelligent Money British GT Championship launches with media Day at Snetterton on Tuesday March 3 with racing getting underway at Oulton Park over the Easter Weekend of April 11 – 13.
